Why does Jesus talk in parables? If he didn’t speak in parables, everyone would understand. That seems like a good thing on the surface, but if people understand and don’t value what they hear, it would be like throwing gems to the swine, and these creatures would walk on them as if the gems were merely part of the ground. If that were to happen, such a disregard would go heavily against those listeners because what comes from heaven is truly valuable. Other than the gift of life, the things of value in life come through various efforts, and efforts come from what a person values. So the Spirit gives the secrets to those who reach and not to the others. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.”
The Spirit will give more for those who have found the gems. For the others who see no value, whatever they had before drops away. These outcomes show the process Jesus holds to and is the reason he talks in parables.
It’s easy to see this also goes for interpreting prophecy. You must go to the Spirit to help teach you. When people study confidently in their mind, even though they hear, they hear nothing, and even though they see, they see nothing. When you ask for the Spirit for guidance, the Spirit opens your intuition and experience to understand it. This opening is the same process used by the Spirit to understanding Parables. Interpreting prophecy correctly will lead to a further correct interpretation of additional prophecy.
There is no check for correct interpretation other than increasing your understanding, uncovering all meaning. The approach to locate all meaning shows progress. But, don’t be afraid to go back to the drawing board; if something shows contradiction, you have found something that is not. Knowing what is not has value also.
Prophecy is the language of the unseen. It uses symbols from the physical domain to speak of the spiritual world. Prophecy is the language of the Spirit, not a code to throw off enemies, even though it does do that very thing. The spirit realm is not of the physical domain, even if they’re both real; they are of two concerns, two witnesses.
So when Jesus talks in parables and prophets talk in symbols, the discussion covers all reality if the Spirit opens the unseen to you.
